Paris Air Show 2015: Esterline CMC Electronics Selected for A300-600 Fleet CNS/ATM Upgrade Program
(Paris Air Show 2015 – June 15, 2015) Esterline CMC Electronics (CMC) has been awarded a contract by a European cargo airline to upgrade the legacy Flight Management Systems (FMS) on its fleet of twenty-one (21) A300-600 aircraft. CMC will supply its latest generation CMA-9000 FMS with Vertical Navigation functionality as part of the upgrade. The upgraded A300-600s will have a much larger navigation database, improved performance optimization and an upgrade path to increased datalink capability. The installation will consist of dual CMA-9000 FMSs, providing the aircraft with multisensory based navigation and enhanced operational capability. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in early 2016.
The CMA-9000’s large navigation database capability offers flexible global operations and will allow the aircraft to make the most efficient use of the airspace as it is modernized over the next 20 years. The fleet will comply with the forecasted Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards for the Communication, Navigation, Surveillance and Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) system.
Greg Yeldon, president, Esterline CMC Electronics, stated: “This European cargo airline’s selection of our industry leading FMS for the retrofit of their A300-600 aircraft confirms the capability of our product as the solution of choice for the air transport market, allowing unrestricted operation of the A300-600 fleet for the foreseeable future.”
This upgrade program will take advantage of the existing Airbus A310 FMS upgrade Supplemental Type Certificate (STC). The same upgrade can be offered to the 400 other Airbus A310 and A300 aircraft flying globally. CMC’s fully coupled, performance optimized vertical navigation FMS is well positioned to enable the upgrade of many other platforms to comply with ICAO standards for flight in civil airspace.
The CMA-9000 is a family of compact FMS variants that is well suited for modern digital cockpits in fixed and rotary wing aircraft for both civil and military applications. It is the next-generation FMS derived from CMC’s successful CMA-900 FMS/GPS and CMA-3000 helicopter FMS. The single unit CMA-9000 is civil certified for multi-sensor (GPS, INS, DME and EGI) navigation capabilities.
