Field Aerospace awarded contract by the U.S. Forest Service on SD3-60 Sherpa Avionics Upgrade

Oklahoma City, OK, August 12th, 2015……….Field Aerospace has been awarded the avionics upgrade for the SD3-60 Sherpa aircraft for the U.S. Forest Service.

Field Aerospace was notified by the United States Forest Service (USFS) as being the successful bidder to design and install an avionics upgrade modification on their Sherpa aircraft (Shorts 3-60).  A Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) will be issued for the modification through Field Aerospace’s FAA Organization Designation Authorization (ODA). The contract is an Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) type contract with a period of performance through March 31, 2020.  Field Aerospace received the first task order on July 31, 2015 to upgrade four (4) aircraft with options for an additional eleven (11) aircraft. First aircraft delivery date is expected in May 2016.

“We are thrilled to have been chosen by the Forest Service to perform the upgrade on their Sherpa aircraft” said John Taylor, Field Aerospace vice president and general manager. “The Forest Service has an extremely important national mission and the system upgrade that we will design, install, and certify will enhance their ability to safely and effectively execute that mission.” These updated aircraft will be utilized in support of wildland fire operations, including smokejumper, passenger, and cargo missions.
