Esterline CMC Electronics Showcases its SmartDeck Integrated Avionics Suite at NBAA 2012
National Business Aviation Association (NBAA)  October 30, 2012. Esterline CMC Electronics (CMC) is showcasing its SmartDeck® integrated avionics suite at NBAA, 2012. Show attendees are invited to experience the advantages of SmartDeck’s operational simplicity and view some of the advanced capabilities being explored by CMC.
SmartDeck® director, Greg Plantz, said, “SmartDeck® has all the capabilities of other glass cockpits, plus one key difference  it is much simpler to operate. Pilots have told us that simpler is better when it comes to navigating through a menu hierarchy to accomplish tasks. They do not want to go through a long learning curve to use their avionics.
“Our shallow menu hierarchy translates into an easy, intuitive operation. It’s one or two selections to get to the information you want. To simplify operations, the current version of the proposed center console unit operates much like a smartphone. Pilots find it very easy to use. The sophisticated, yet uncluttered displays in the panel provide enhanced situational awareness. Everything works the way pilots expect. So pilots can fly better, smarter and safer.â€Â
SmartDeck® is a cockpit avionics system that has been certified by the FAA. Its innovative and intuitive user interface increases the ease and accuracy of flight management and significantly streamlines flight operations. Its advanced architecture supports scalability to various types of aircraft. It also provides the growth capability to meet continuously evolving air traffic management requirements and support maintainability  all of key importance to owners and operators. From the SmartDeck’s pilot oriented integration of navigation, communication, surveillance, electronic charts and moving map functions, to its best-in-class synthetic vision, this CMC avionics suite delivers an exceptional level of functionality and situational awareness that make flying easier and safer.
CMC recently announced that Cobalt Aircraft Industries has selected the SmartDeck® integrated avionics suite as standard on the new Co50 single-engine executive aircraft. The first Co50 prototype has undergone high-speed taxi testing and is entering the initial phases of its development flight test program. Also, SmartDeck® was selected earlier this year by Evektor for their new, multipurpose EV-55 Outback aircraft. The prototype aircraft is currently in flight test and has logged over 80 flight hours. A third prototype aircraft is currently being assembled and will be equipped with SmartDeck® cockpit avionics.
