Esterline CMC Electronics Receives Elite Supplier Award from Korea Aerospace Industries
(Singapore International Air Show – February 11, 2014)  Esterline CMC Electronics (CMC) was presented an Elite Supplier Award by Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) at KAI’s 8th Bi-annual Supplier Symposium, in recognition of its outstanding contributions and cooperation on the KT-1 aircraft export program. The event was held in Seoul, Korea on October 27, 2013.
This is the second Elite Supplier Award that CMC has received in its on-going efforts to support the KT-1 export aircraft. The most recent award recognizes CMC’s performance in support of two international KAI programs – the KT-1T program for the Turkish Air Force and the KT-1P program for the Peruvian Air Force.
CMC has supplied its Cockpit 4000 avionics suite for the Turkish Air Force’s 40-aircraft KT-1 trainer program. The Turkish program was the first production order for this aircraft, later designated as
KT-1T. CMC signed a contract with KAI to provide its Cockpit 4000 integrated glass cockpit for 20 Peruvian Air Force turboprop trainer aircraft designated as KT-1P in December 2012.
The relationship between CMC and KAI began in 2003 when KAI selected CMC to be the avionics integrator for the XKT-1C prototype aircraft (the baseline for the export version of their successful and indigenous KT-1 turboprop trainer). During that initial effort, CMC delivered a System Integration Lab (SIL) and avionics for the SIL as well as the Cockpit 4000 avionics for the prototype aircraft. The core avionics supplied by CMC included two open architecture mission computers, multifunction displays, a SparrowHawk™ HUD system, and an Up Front Control Panel (UFCP). In addition, CMC provided in-country support for each phase of the development, including flight test. The prototype aircraft has been flying since January 24, 2007. CMC was awarded its first Elite Supplier Award by KAI in 2007.
About 100 international and domestic suppliers for the KAI T-50/FA-50, KUH and KT-1 programs were represented at the supplier symposium.  Only 10 companies were presented with an award. Suppliers were evaluated on risk management, schedule, management/administration and quality. They were then nominated based on their overall performance and recommendations by various groups within KAI, including procurement, engineering and quality.
